Oratorical Festival
Sunday, March 9
This year's Saint John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival will take place on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 12:30 pm, in the Father Homer library. All students in the 7th-12th grades are encouraged to participate.

The festival is a great opportunity for our junior and senior high Sunday school students to learn, write, and speak about their Orthodox faith, church, and heritage.

There are two divisions: junior high (grades 7-9) and high school (10-12). All participants will receive a gift card. Those that place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will receive $50, $25, and $10, respectively.

Go Fly a Kite for Clean Monday
Monday, March 10
All youth along with their families and friends are invited to go fly a kite on Monday, March 10th from 3 to 6 p.m.at Gasworks Park. Greek School is hosting this event and will also invite children to make a kite on Sunday, March 9th in room 110 after Sunday School.
Clean Monday is the first day of Lent and the start of the fast. It is also tradition in Greece to fly kites from the tops of hills. Kites have traditionally been handmade and the Greek regulation kite is hexagonal. Narrow strips of wood are used and tied together in the middle by string. A large piece of paper is then stuck to the hexagonal shape and individually decorated. Fringes and tails of colored shiny paper are then added and an extremely long ball of string attached. In Greece, by early afternoon if the wind permits, kites of every color are to be seen from far and wide.
Please contact George Maroutsos for more information or to participate.
